We got a great view of the vent that you'd never see from the ground ...




... mainly because you can't get there on the ground. Lava flows have washed out the roads and highways long the eastern coastline of the island.




Here you can see what the terrain used to look like, right next to the flow.




This large private home was turned into a B&B, and continues to operate today with guests flown in by helicopter. With lava flows on all sides, I guess it's a rather nicely secluded spot (not counting the helicopters flying overhead).
