The first few thousand - THOUSAND?! - sections that come off the press are junked because they were still adjusting the ink levels as they came through the press. I caught one stack mid-air but ended up blocking the view of the guy who'd tossed them. Back to photojournalism school for me... The big blue bin the junk papers are tossed into is actually sitting on a scale, and that's how they judge how many usable sections they've printed: time elapsed multiplied by printing speed minus the junk pages in the blue bin (calculated by weight).




The first batch of approved Review sections are loaded onto a pallet. Say your farewells now, though. In a few minutes they are going to meet an untimely demise.




The press ran for several minutes churning out about five thousand Review sections before one of the pressmen noticed a wee discrepancy and brought the whole thing to a halt. Much to my disappointment, no one yelled 'stop the presses.' Or if they did, it was totally incoherent because you can't hear anything with the press running.
