[ On the ground at

SEATAC ]

On the ground at SEATAC, the airport strategically located between Seattle and Tacoma, I took another picture of the plane as a reminder of what a blessing it is to actually remember that you'd left your camera in the seat pocket on the plane before going into the terminal, and thus having a chance to retrieve it. Close call.

[ Rental car

]

My 'Ford Focus or similar' rental car always seems to turn out to be a Chevy Cavalier. This one was from California, so I prepared myself for scornful looks from the locals.

Driving into town I wanted to take some scene-setting shots of the skyline, but that's actually not very effective when you're driving down a highway. It only took about 15 minutes to get from the airport to the city core, and I decided to take a little spin around to get the lay of the land before going to the hotel.

[ Seattle Public

Library ]

The first interesting thing I came across was the newish central branch of the Seattle Public Library. This shot doesn't do it justice, so I suggest you check this out for more pictures. A visit to the inside is on my list for any return trip to the city.

[ Space Needle

]

Of course it didn't take long to catch a glimpse of the Space Needle. From there I steered up a suspiciously steep hill towards my hotel, and began to realize that the city is stupendously hilly. Ah, well. Good for the legs. On to the hotel...
