Cold or not, Emma was just happy to be there.




After a nice afternoon at the beach, we worked up our dinner appetites by hanging out on the hotel balcony as the clouds/fog rolled past the small Tofino harbour.




On our evening at Sun Peaks I was flipping through the channels on the hotel TV and came across an episode of CBC's Venture that was profiling small businesses in Tofino. Since we were heading there in a few days, I watched with some interest. This particular business was criticised for having a lack of focus. Fresh crab and ice cream?!?




Day 8 saw the morning rush at the Common Loaf bakery in "downtown" Tofino. They had provided us with excellent sandwiches for the beach the day before, so we trusted them to provide some juice, coffee and muffins for our departure.


Boy were we disappointed. I don't normally slag businesses on my travel postings, but they were dreadful. Among the infractions:
» very slow
» ignored repeated inquiries about the coffee (it took 10 minutes to get our coffee when it turns out all they had to do was put out a fresh pot that had been sitting there the entire time)
» told customers they were "too busy" to bus some tables so they could sit down
» failed to tell the customers they were out of half the things they ordered
» told customers their food would be 15 minutes because they only had one person working the grill -- despite having a staff of about 10 people running around back there.


Although we got off lightly compared to some of the customers in there with us, if we ever go back to Tofino, we're going somewhere else. We know life is running at a slightly slower pace in Tofino, but takeout coffee, juice and a muffin should not take 15 minutes anywhere.




These tourists appeared to have brought their own van with them - from Germany. We passed them and headed on to Nanaimo.
