While I waited for my flight I wandered around the airport and found this sculpture that I can only assume was inspired by sea mines. I guess you have to cherish your explosive maritime heritage.




American Airlines managed to get my plane into Tampa with more than enough time to get it ready for our flight. Heck, they even boarded us on time. We actually pushed back from the gate on time. But then we stopped and went right back to the gate because La Guardia was still dealing with an onslaught of snow the day before and everything was delayed. We sat on the ground, in the plane, in Tampa for an extra hour. I can't really fault AA for this. I blame anyone who can't handle a little snow. New York, I'm looking at you...




There are so few recognizable landmarks along the eastern U.S. seaboard but I definitely recognized this when we flew over it - Dover AFB, home of the U.S. Air Force's main cargo moving wing. It's home to big transport jets, the kind you need to ferry troops and equipment to faraway lands (I'm not talking about Wisconsin here). Not surprisingly, given world events, the ramp is packed with aircraft.




I have no idea which part of New York this is, but it's south of JFK. And it looks even more densely populated than Chicago. There's just miles and miles of people. If I'd been sitting on the other side of the plane I could have gotten great shots of Manhattan.
