Marriot Corp, whose tentacles reach to the four corners of the globe, is actually operating the apartment complex where my grandmother lives. I first made their acquaintance at King's, where I went to school and they provided the "food."

The next day, Boxing Day, I had to leave. But not before taking another drive-by photo. The good news is that compliance to the sign is high in America. The bad news is that this evangelical broadcaster did not mean the sign as a suggestion.

As we drove back to the airport, Florida decided to be all picturesque again.

Forgive the blurry photo, but taking pictures of airport security is a dodgy business these days. This was the first time I'd encountered the check-in baggage screening that I subsequently realized had become the norm in the U.S. and other countries since 9/11. Rather than x-raying and electronically bomb-sniffing your luggage behind the scenes in a random-sample kind of way, they've transitioned to in-your-face screening of every bag, to say nothing of the attention paid to carry-on.
