At almost every park and rest stop along the way, we saw feral chickens. They seem to be the product of a failed farming experiment, and they are running loose all over Maui from what I can tell. Googling "maui chicken" produces more recipes than answers.




The road to Hana has many visually appealing vistas. In this case, people had stopped their cars and set up their cameras to get shots of some impressive painted eucalyptus trees. Or maybe they just really liked the chickens. Hard to say.




I took quite a few pictures of the local flora as well. One of Maui's main exports is exotic tropical flowers.




We weren't the only ones appreciating (or photographing) the chickens. There were also some cats running loose at this rest area, presumably locked in eternal battle with the chickens.
