The next day we undertook the road to Hana, a multihour excursion down the northeast side of the island. As it is the 'wet' side, there is lush rainforest all up and down the coast.

We had a narrated driving tour CD that we borrowed from a friend and it helped point out many possible points of interest along the route, including this swimming hole with a waterfall and swing rope.

We passed a few derelict vehicles on the twisty two-lane route along the coast, including this wrecked van abandoned in the ditch, complete with broken windows and what appeared to be bullet holes.

As a matter of interest, we heard a lot of radio ads for a junk-car amnesty that suggests people tend not to dispose of their old cars properly on the islands.
