Arriving in Rome and finding the hotel and then being moved to another hotel etc did not lend itself to photography on account of carrying bags around, but when we were settled in Rome, we hit the subway. I was surprised at how graffiti-govered the subway cars were. I was taking a picture of one as it pulled into the station when a cop walks right in the way and a) ruins the shot and b) takes offence. Good thing Evan was right there (or rather, left there) so as to smooth things over ...

We went straight to the Vatican (stopping only to buy postcards so I could send them from the Vatican post office) and St. Peter's. I think the sunlight makes a nice effect but I could live without the woman(?) on the right ...

There was supposed to be a long lineup for going up to the top of the dome, but about half an hour before they closed it, we discovered a) where to go and b) that we still could go. So up we went. It took a while, and some of the staircases were clearly not up to code (ha) but we reached the top at sunset and had an excellent view with a bit of a rosy colour to it ...
