[
Main street ]

After checking in, we gathered back together and walked down towards the waterfront for a look around. The first touristy spot we hit was Karl Johans Gate, with the palace at the top of the hill and a string of restaurants along the road (including a TGI Friday's).

[
Parliament building ]

Facing the opposite way from the previous picture, you can see the Parliament building.

[
City Hall ]

A little further towards the water is the rather surprisingly large city hall building, where they confer the Nobel peace prize each year. I don't understand why a city of just half a million needs a city hall this big.

[ oslo harbour ]

There is a big pedestrian square (which you can see better by
clicking here) in front of the city, which stretches right to the harbour.

[
Talking to the minesweeper dude ]

In the harbour there is an old decommissioned minesweeper, and Cal struck up a conversation with one of the guys who staffs it. They don't charge for admission to the boat, but they will sell you waffles in the ship's kitchen.
