[ Detroit faithful wait for the players ]

The next morning was the day of our second Predators game, against Detroit. It's hard to find a team in the league that doesn't like to beat the highly successful Red Wings squad, but Nashville has managed to torque their rivalry to new heights, probably with the heavy presence of interlopers: Detroit faithful who have moved to Tennessee over the years and maintained their allegiance to the Red Wings. Some support the Predators when Detroit's not around, but that kind of "Pred Wings" duplicity is not condoned by the true believers.

We spotted these Detroit fans waiting across the street from the arena for their players to make the short walk across the hotel to the morning skate.

[ Morning skate ]

Thanks to Mark's timely introduction to a Predators PR rep on Thursday night we were invited to come watch the Saturday skate, which was clearly optional given how few of the players stayed for more than a few minutes.

[ Coaches and Players ]

The coaches and players chat at the bench - I think that's Dan Ellis (goalie) and Joel Ward. Ward gets special mention here for being a Scarborough native and our waitress's favourite player.

[ Mike, James and Tracie ]

We met up with Mike and Tracie for a quick drink before the Detroit game started and then headed to the arena. Note the first signs of what would turn into snow later than evening. We'd come so far, only to be snowed on.

[ Zoo day at the arena ]

It was Nashville Zoo day at the arena (this has happened to us before, I'm not sure why it follows us around on these trips). Besides this guy handing out coupons to the zoo, they had a woman with some kind of live falcon and other people dressed up in silly costumes. They were also handing out blankets with the image of the local air ambulance helicopter on it.
