[ Ferry lineup

]

The next morning it was time, based on the carefully calculated weather-to-planned- activities matrix, for a trip across Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island. It's just across the water from the downtown area and seems to be a curious mix of parkland and residential neighbourhoods. The ferry awaits.

[ The ferry

The ferry made me think of the special two-hour episode of Emergency! that took place in Seattle and featured a fire on one of the ferries.

They probably expect you to keep your hands on the wheel when driving on the ferry. Pish-posh!

[ Loading the ferry

Once parked, you can go up into the passenger areas of the ferry although I don't think it's actually required (the ride is quite short). I paused to watch them load some more cars.

[ Leaving the pier

]

By the time I got to the top deck of the ferry, it had already finished loading cars. This animation is from the back of the ferry as it pulls away from the Seattle waterfront terminal. Both ends o the ferry look the same, allowing it to pull up to its destinations at both ends of the run without having to turn around. (You may have to give it a minute to load fully.)
