Nearly home after the long road trip to Hana, and it was time for another gorgeous Pacific sunset.

Bright and early the next morning (a disturbing trend was developing of getting up bright and early!), we were on a boat ready to head out on a snorkeling tour run through the Ocean Center.

As we set sail from the coast of Maui, heading for the crescent-shaped crater called Molokini, Emma spotted a humpback whale mother and baby in the distance.

Once word spread that the whales were out there, it wasn't just the tourists on board who were excited to see the whales - one of the staffers (in the blue shirt and ball cap) seemed more excited than the rest of us. Apparently there are lots of humpbacks around earlier in the year, but they have all left Hawaiian waters for the return to Alaska by late April/early May, when we were there.
