Medivac helicopter ]

Space on the island is limited, so they have to improvise a landing spot for the FIA-required medivac helicopter.

[

Helicopter over the stands ]

I took this shot during the race and kind of like how it turned out. One of the camera helicopters spent the whole race doing laps in the air above the track. Another was motionless above a single spot for the entire race, which I imagine must have been incredibly boring for the pilot.

OK, so this is the part where I admit that I have no meaningful pictures of the race itself. We couldn't really see all that much, but I was really impressed to be there in person and see all the F1 fans, plus to hear and feel the cars going by on the track. I'm glad we went.

[

Cat's dirty feet ]

Our spot was unfortunately mostly loose dry dirt, and by the end of the race a lot of our stuff was covered in dirt, worst of all Cat's feet.

[

About to invade ]

As soon as the race was over, the fans started moving towards the fence to try and get onto the track. It was a very orderly invasion, as people lined up to go through the marshal access points. In other spots, people held the fencing open for each other as they improvised their own access points.

[

Sato's car being carried back to the pits ]

As we waited for our chance to get onto the track, we spotted this tow truck bringing Takuma Sato's car back after its rather untimely demise earlier in the race. Actually it crapped out twice in the race, which isn't all that common!
