[
Canadian residence ]

On the way to our next stop, we passed by the very large, very expensive looking Canadian ambassador's residence. It has an 'annex' as well as tennis courts and a giant walking garden.

[
Fram museum ]

The Fram museum is named for the ship contained within, but it was really hard for me not to think about oil filters the whole time.

[
Inside the Fram museum ]

They built the museum around the arctic/antarctic research ship - literally. You can go inside the ship and look at exhibits along the walls.

We went from there to the humorously named Norsk Sjofartsmuseum, where it was too dark to take many good pictures. Besides, we were destined to come back again the next day...

[
Roosevelt statue ]

Bonus points to anyone who can explain to me why there's a statue of FDR in Oslo. It's located on the hill leading up to the aforementioned Akershus Castle.

[
Resistance museum ]

Part of the castle houses the Norwegian Resistance Museum, a rather fascinating collection that documents the underground resistance to Nazi occupation during the Second World War. This is the display at the entrance, with a large number of rifles welded together into a menacing sculpture.

After the resistance museum we walked around the edge of the castle, which offers an excellent view of the harbour.
