[
Palace grounds ]

The palace grounds are quite open and serve as a rather nice park.

[
Tour group ]

As Norway gained its independence in 1905, it had no real royal family of its own and imported a Danish prince to be its king. (We came upon an English-speaking tour group and decided to eavesdrop for a bit.)

[
Food prices ]

They have a lot of the same candy products in their corner stores (and lots of 7-Elevens too, for that matter), but as with all other forms of food, the prices are about three times higher than what we're used to in Canada. Those Reese's peanut butter cups are $3.

[
View at 11pm ]

One of the problems I faced in Norway was the fact that it stayed light out very late and then started getting light again quite early. This was the view from my room at 11pm. My jetlag was not improved by this development.

[
Holy money! ]

Did I mention they have holey money? One of the great things about it is that the smallest unit is 1 kroner, equivalent to about 20 cents Canadian. Nevermind ditching the penny, we need skip right to the dime if you ask me.
